Growing up as an English Language Learner, I always struggled with literacy! I hated reading because I was slow at it and found it difficult to understand some of the words which created a disconnect with concepts. I loved writing though! I thought I had so many great ideas to put on paper (aaahh… remember writing on paper, the good all days!) but the problem was with my grammar, spelling, and punctuation. A tool like todays highlight would have been a game changer for me, and I know it will be for students today, no matter where they’re at with their literacy.

Quill.org is an interactive writing and grammar platform that uses AI-powered writing prompts to help students improve their writing skills. The platform provides nonfiction texts paired with AI-powered writing prompts instead of multiple-choice questions, enabling deeper thinking. Students read a nonfiction text and build their comprehension through writing prompts, supporting a series of claims with evidence sourced from the text. The AI features that Quill.org utilize include a grammar checker that checks your writing for grammar and punctuations errors, a powerful spell checker to help you double-check your spelling and avoid misusing words, and a summarizer that condenses everything from news articles to emails to academic papers into digestible key points. The platform also offers a paraphrasing tool that helps overcome writer’s block and other common writing challenges by offering different ways of writing your text. It helps English Language Learners articulate their ideas faster and more fluently and provides statistics about the tone and style of your writing. | Quill.org is a non-profit organization that provides a tremendous amount of features for FREE! 748 independent practice activities, 10 diagnostic assessments, and 43 collaborative full-class lessons are the tools for writing. Various data reports provide a visual overview of student’s proficiency range, percentage score, and activity completions. You can follow student’s thought pattern by reviewing any activity’s prompts, student’s responses, and feedback received. With the diagnostics scores report, you can assign personalized learning plans according to student’s responses and score. Being able to connect to Google Classroom and Clever allows quick log-in by students and get notifications when assignments are posted. The premium plan, $80/teacher/year. of Quill.org includes all the free features with some added on data reporting. They also have a school premium account for $1800/school/year, which includes everything AND teacher training. |
